Hi, I'm Dee. I know you're supposed to write these things in the third person, but that nonsense is weird. So here's my bio in first person.
I'm a recent Advertising Masters graduate from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University and self-professed geek. These two things have more to do with one another than you'd think.
I credit the anime Sailor Moon with changing my life. At age nine, I became so obsessed with the show that I picked up a pencil and started to express my love for it through art. I then found a computer and started to design and code terrible Sailor Moon websites. While doing that, I found awesome communities of folks online through AOL and Livejournal (showing my age, here). I didn't understand what was happening back then, but my super nerdy obsession for Sailor Moon grew into a love of art, design, and social media.
Years later, I got accepted to the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University as an undecided art major. After trying out different disciplines, I finally settled into Advertising Design. It combined my love for art, design, and social media. I love it when the research, the creative strategy, the concept, and the design all come together to give birth to an idea with the power to move people and shape cultures. It's inspiring to witness a great idea and fantastic execution cause lasting impressions.
Two years after receiving my undergraduate degree, I returned to Syracuse's icy tundra to broaden my advertising and marketing knowledge as an Advertising Masters student. While at Newhouse I learned what a SWOT analysis is (and that it's not spelled with an "a") and gained invaluable experience in market and competitive analysis, account planning, secondary and primary research, social media marketing, and digital strategy. I've worked with clients such as Wegmans, Campbell's Soup, Wrong Gear, Ford, Oreo, and Cosmopolitan Magazine. My experience working with big brands and small businesses helped tremendously in building my own business from the ground up.
Currently, I am Head of Marketing and Communications for IDEA and the Associate Provost for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Syracuse University. I coordinate and develop national and international communication strategies and executions for a variety of media.
I'm also cofounder and CEO of Scrapsule. Check it out. It's pretty awesome.
